About The Event

The Halton Environmental Network is partnering with the Canadian Federation of University Women (CFUW) - Oakville and GreenPAC to bring this debate to our community.

The debate in Oakville is part of the 100 Debates on the Environment project, which is coordinating debates in ridings across our country.  100 Debates on the Environment is a non-partisan and politically neutral project that aims to bring voters together at the riding level to hear candidates’ best policy ideas for the environment. Our organization and many members of the community look forward to your engagement at the debate so we can better understand your position on critical environmental issues.

Each of the 100 debates happening nationwide will include common questions on topics like nature, pandemic recovery, toxins, climate change and indigenous rights.  These questions will be shared with all candidates 72 hours in advance of the debate.

Additional questions will be asked by HEN and CFUW-Oakville and will have local relevance. The community is being invited now to contribute questions to the debate.  These questions will be adjudicated by HEN and [partner organization] and the top 5 will be provided in a poll to the live audience to select 2 to be asked during the live Debate.

Moderators are being finalized and will be shared with you when confirmed.  They include HEN Board members or staff, members of CFUW-Oakville, and Generation Green Youth Mentors.

The debate will be held via Zoom from 8-10 pm on September 8, 2021. The link will be sent to you in advance and you will be asked to join 30 minutes early to ensure everything is functioning well. Live polls will be utilized to engage the audience.

Local media will be invited to cover this event. The debate will also be recorded and posted on HEN’s YouTube channel. Further details regarding the format will be provided in the near future.
